Hungry Knight: a knight moves game for kids
The knight is the chess piece children find hardest, because it is the only one that jumps and its move is shaped like the letter L. Hungry Knight turns that move into a game: hop the knight around the board in L shapes and eat every star.
How the knight moves in chess
- Two squares in a straight line, then one square to the side. That makes an L.
- The knight can jump over any piece in the way.
- From the middle of the board a knight can reach up to eight squares; from a corner, only two.
- Each jump lands on a square of the other color.
How Hungry Knight teaches it
Stars sit on squares around the board. Your child plans a path, jumps the knight in L shapes, and eats the stars one by one. Planning two or three jumps ahead is exactly the skill that makes knights dangerous in a real game.
A trick for young players
Say it out loud while moving: “One, two, turn.” Two steps straight, then turn for one step. Most children get the L shape within a few rounds.
How to unlock it
